Bank & Bridge Brewing, Mystic

On a crisp Saturday afternoon in November, a small group of us popped into Bank & Bridge Brewing in downtown Mystic. Mystic is consistently bustling these days on any day that ends in Y, and we found it no different at Bank & Bridge for good reason. Inside you’ll find a very cool all-white interior with industrial accents and coastal vibes like live tropical Monstera and Palm greenery. And, the neon signs are the icing on the very cool cake.
There’s a mix of high-tops and tables sprinkled throughout the large space and can accommodate many people without feeling like you’re on top of another party. With flatscreens for the sports fans and a cozy lounge area filled with board games and a life-size Connect Four, it’s easy to make a fun afternoon here.
When you arrive, head straight to the front counter to place your order (mine was a Downeast Winter Cider, apropos to a cool fall afternoon), while the rest of the group went for in-house pours of Celestial Navigation (a double IPA made with Zappa and Mosaic hops exhibiting flavors of fruit, spice, berry and currant) and The Joker (a crushable Pilsner named after Kevin Keating, the Joker, with whom owner Walt served with in the Marine Corps). About half-way through our tenure, we decided it was time for some grub. We threw all caution to the wind and went with a wolfish order of Bavarian pretzels, Old Bay dusted fries, and “Phat” Wings (Corn Flake-crusted chicken nuggets, tossed in hot maple and served with Bank Sauce). Disclaimer: we regretted none of it. A mouthwatering and undoubtedly indulgent selection of burgers and sandwiches also make themselves quite seen on the menu.
Bank and Bridge’s Manifesto is as follows: “A Marine Corps veteran, turned trial lawyer, turned brewery owner, Walt traded in his combat boots for dress shoes and now flip flops. His San Diego roots and love for Cali Reggae music creates a laid back, chill, kid-friendly atmosphere that makes this production brewery and taproom a must stop when visiting Mystic.”
