| Tuckerman, from Dirt to Shirt
Years ago, I expanded my women’s clothing store into menswear. It seemed so simple compared to women's fashion: just shirts, pants, jackets, tees and a few ties. And unlike women’s ever-evolving trends, menswear doesn’t change much through the seasons, perhaps making plodding progress toward a narrower lapel or cuffed pant. But that doesn’t mean men’s fashion doesn’t have its complexities. Small details become hyper important: peak lapel or double breasted? Button down or spread collar? And if you (speaking to the male reader here!), or your mate is anything like mine, you have very distinct preferences. It’s not often I have a chance to bust out my knowledge of menswear minutiae, so it was such fun to gab with the couple behind Tuckerman, a new collection of men’s dress shirts based out of New Haven. These Yale School of Management grads...

| Conscious Skincare: With Love by Kate While we’re thinking Valentine’s Day, I have to tell you about With Love by Kate. Many of you already know Kate Novack, she was a beloved yoga teacher at Riverdog and after the studio closed, she found her way to the Red Barn in Lyme. But yoga isn’t her only gig. Since 2006 she’s been quietly mixing organic ingredients into powerful skincare potions and has launched With Love by Kate. Trained in Ayurveda and aromatherapy, Kate’s products are geared to sensitive, aging skin (me!)...

Adventure Rooms, Middletown
by Robbin Myers
On the hunt for an engaging activity to do with my three kids (ages 11, 13 and 14), I happened upon a friend’s Facebook post about Adventure Rooms in Middletown. Their website intrigued me — it's a live action game where you try to solve your way out of a room or maze. We snagged the only remaining reservation, "Remedy Team", and headed up to the historic Sanseer Mill the next day. An upbeat instructor gave us the lay of the land and told us we’d learn what we needed to know as we went along. So mysterious...

| The NEW Mystic Luxury Cinema:
Wait! Do you know what they’ve done to the Old Mystick Village Art Cinema? It’s now LUXURY Cinemas! We headed over to see Revenant (gory, yes, but Leo is amazing), and gleefully climbed into our oversized, reclining lounge chairs. Get this, Jonathan Edwards wines are available, plus a few varieties of local beer and, yup, that is REAL butter on the popcorn. A mix of blockbuster and independent films keep everyone in the family happy (The Big Short, Brooklyn, The Revenant and more are currently on view). Movie night has just become a little more interesting! Buy your seats ahead as our show was entirely sold out, surprising for a Sunday matinee.
